bret michaels eve
today at the shift change briefing, i asked the night shift if they’d decided whether they would open their “bret michaels eve” presents tonight or on “bret micheaels day.” i never got a straight answer, as everyone was laughing at me. they continued, even as i indicated this was no laughing matter.
today i rode with someone to visit the much-talked-about westside bx. it’s bigger than the other side’s version that’s closer to where we live and work. i didn’t buy anything, but we did walk next door and got some popeye’s chicken. mmmm. first fast food i’ve had since getting here. i raised a drumstick to our neighbors in atlanta, erric and pedro, who love popeye’s. i had my first coke in several months, too, since it came with it. i fully expect an upset stomach in a few hours.
i was able to requisition some wiley x tinted goggles for the aeot and aircrew members, and i got work gloves for everyone in the aeot the other day. give your people free gifts, and they will love you, i hope. we found a bunch of extra army backpacks we’re handing out to everyone, too. now i don’t have to continuing dirtying my northface one.
when i got back to my trailer after shift change today, there were bags on top of the extra bed. at first i jumped a little, b/c i thought i’d gone into the wrong trailer. then i realized someone had moved in, so i immediately called the squadron first sgt to tell him there had been a mistake made by housing. he said only squadron commanders get their own trailers. i’m a flight commander. i let him know that my flight has always had an individual trailer for its commander. he said he’d call back. i started cleaning up the other side of the trailer a bit while i waited for his call, and a girl knocked on the door to drop off some paperwork for the other guy and put it on his bed. the phone rang again; the first sgt indicated there is some movement in the E pods, and that i may have a roomie for a week or two until he moves into the E quadrant, unless i decide i want him to stay. fat chance, i thought. shortly after we hung up, the guy walked in. he’s a young captain and an f-16 pilot from hill air force base, utah…probably my favorite base to visit b/c of its close proximity to park city. i delayed going to exercise for a bit to talk to him, and he does seem like he’ll make a good roommate for however long he’s here. he seemed impressed that i practice law when i’m home; i’m sure i seemed impressed that he flies fighters and snowskis when he’s home.
i’m supposed to have a video teleconference at 1830 tomorrow. i don’t know how long it normally lasts, b/c i’ve only attended one (they’re every other week), and it was cut short b/c of bad weather in afghanistan, causing the connection to be bad. i’d really like to be at the theater by 1900, since the show starts at 2000. the other folks who are going indicated they’d get there early and try to save me a spot, so we’ll see. i may have to get up and leave if the conf goes too long. i’m really hoping for another bad connection.
am out of time again. hope to write tomorrow night.
